Lawrence Wong
PSLE results will be out tomorrow.
I know many students, and their parents, are waiting anxiously for the results. I met several of them this evening during my block visits. One young boy told me he was so excited that he might not be able to sleep tonight!
To all PSLE students (and parents) out there, I wish you all the best for the results tomorrow.
For those who did well and got to their school of choice, congratulations!
For those who did not do so well, I can understand if you feel disappointed and concerned about the future. But I hope you take this in your stride, and move forward. Our neighbourhood secondary schools offer many interesting programmes to cater to diverse abilities and talents (I know because I went to one myself). So find a secondary school that suits you, and make the most of the opportunities to improve yourself, and to maximize your potential.
Remember, the PSLE is not the end-point of your education; nor is it the determinant of how far you can go in life. I know of many people who did not do so well for PSLE, but went on to college, and later excelled in their careers.
Ultimately, an education is about more than getting into a good school or getting a good job when you graduate. It’s about each and every one of us taking responsibility for our lives - to fulfill our promise, to be the best version of ourselves we can be.
So it is your attitude and mindset - not just your school grades - that count. If you are prepared to work hard, to seize every opportunity to learn, to overcome setbacks with tenacity, then I am confident that you will succeed, not just for the coming year, but for the rest of your lives.
I am hopeful and excited about what all of you can achieve, and wish you all every success in your next exciting phase of education!
