Firstly, I am not against the property tax.
What I am strongly against is the increase of property tax for HDB flats. Because the Housing Board flats are regarded as the benefits given to citizens and PRs by the government for the purpose of self-living, not for investment or money making. It's the principle of HDB flats. HDB flats are totally different from private properties. These HDB properties are 100% controlled by government and are the bottomline for normal people. I don't sublet the flat out so I have no income by living in my HDB flat, under such circumstance, why was the property tax increased by 20%? There is no foundation of the increase at all. For those who sublet their rooms or whole flats should pay additional income tax. Subjectively, I don't feel "rich" due to the increase of market value of my flat; and objectively, I don't make any money from my property, so the question is, what's point of increase? The increase is not about big figure or small number, even increase is $1, there must be a reason for it. |
