Today, i encountered a singaporean local customer, whom abuse foreign talent in Singapore that:
You CHINESE, INDIAN, FILIPINO etc screw up singapore's productivity and standard;
I know you have difficulty to spell, to listen, I speak chinese to you, i SCARE you don't understand english;
when you come to singapore, did you bring your brain as well?
This is the 4th time i run into foreign 'talen' problem in SGP.
----he even uses QUOTATION Mark. Such kind of insult are not acceptable.
he is INSULTING our ESTEEM!!
he is INSULTING our COUNTRY!!!
he is INSULTING our TALENT!!!
In my experince, Singapore is a great Nation, is a civilized country, it can absorb different races and culture, but what he had done to us totally ruined the image in my heart.
I hope he could respect people from every country as they need to be respected whoever he/she is!
Please BROADCAST and LIKE the post if you agree.
THANKS~~~
Lastly, i hope all foreign talent can be respected in singapore~

Hi bro. I don't think this issue can be solved overnight. Influx of FTs has a great effect on the productivity and repeatedly coincided with intolerance and xenophobia in SG. It's obviously unacceptable for them to see Gov keep FT unchecked. Therefore, we should try to put ourselves into their shoes to void further resistance. Frankly, I don't believe that all Singaporeans dislike FTs. It's pointless to argue with this customer.

As a service provider, you get to meet all sorts of customers. And sometimes very obnoxious ones. This person disregarded your dignity as an individual but his contempt should not cost you any. Note down the issue and highlight it to your superior. Every service provider deserves respect as much as the customer does. No one deserves to be treated this way no matter who you are.

Keeping the economy in good health is our government's duty. And while doing so, the interests of those whom they were elected to serve must not be compromised. Therefore, the PM made it clear that he will regulate the entry of foreigners without jeopardizing the nation's progress.

Introducing foreigners into the country stagnanted and sometimes reduced the average wages of those in the affected segment. And being uncared for by those they voted into parliament, it is inevitable to have the public making massive outcry against this grave error.

Honestly speaking, I think there are many things the foreigner who comes into Singapore to work should know. I feel that the overall quality of many aspects did went down althought operating costs were kept 'competitive'. Please be consoled that not everyone thinks like that. I strongly advocate mutual respect and thus will do my part to respect my service provider no matter how 'lowly' they are. Nonetheless, they are just trying to make ends meet.

I don't agree to using the term xenophobic on Singaporeans. I think Singaporeans are just frustrated over the reduction of quality over work quality. On the contrary, I think xenophobia should be applied to the foreigners who came being unable to adapt expected to be accomodated. And sometimes to the extend of becoming loathed like insulting the locals, bullying the locals and threatening the locals.

I will greatly respect you if you did not retaliate and did your part to maintain the image of your company regardless the circumstances.

You made a grave error. Not 'impress'. Impress is a word with positive meaning. You should use something like 'affected me' (neutral meaning). Or simply use 'deeply disturbed me'.

At the very start, Singapore Government did choose a very inappropriate term for most of us 'foreign talents', in most of the local's understanding, 'talents' must have certain skill that locals do not process so that 'talents' can do a job which locals are not able to do.

"At the very start, Singapore Government did choose a very inappropriate term for most of us 'foreign talents', in most of the local's understanding, 'talents' must have certain skill that locals do not process so that 'talents' can do a job which locals are not able to do."

So in your opinion, what should be a more appropriate word to replace 'foreign talent'?

In regards to your views on talents, I feel that it is not entirely true. In order to constitute as a talent, you must be able to possess certain skills or knowledge to execute a job that cannot be filled by anyone. What the government was looking at is a method of introducing people who possess a certain type of skill set into the pool of talents made up by the locals to increase the productivity. Also maintains the operating cost at a competitive rate. This very productivity helps to increase the possibilities of having foreign investors to continue their investments or attract new investments here. Thus increasing more job oportunities.

However, what caught them unaware was their failure to recognize that they have lost touch with the ground. The government here did not foresee that the influx of foreigners benefitted only the employers but adversely affected the livelihood of the masses. Wages were stagnant and in some cases reduced. Cost of living shot up, inflation was unprecedented, jobs became less available for locals since the cheaper but not necessary more or equally competent foreigner is filling up the post. Bread and butter issues became hot topics for the locals who were struggling to make ends meet. The income disparity was further driven apart due to the problems caused by the government's nonchalent assumption that their policies were working.

It was during the recent election that the PM finally reached an unexpected epiphany that he has completely lost touch with what was going on the ground. He made dramatic changes to his original attitude and implemented more policies to protect the people he failed to protect.

Introducing foreign talents into Singapore apart from increasing the pool here, is also meant to give the cost of operation a more competitive edge. It is still very much preferred to have locals fill in positions that require high level communication skills and of course competency that 'foreigners' cannot achieve. But sadly, many companies, which I feel in particular Singaporean companies, are opting to employ incompetent people due to the lower costs, thus driving down salaries and making it harder for the general masses to survive and also bringing the quality of work lower.
