cambridge is very particular about choice of word. In all the past year papers, they have been using 'all the real roots' when they mean 'real' only, 'all the roots' has been only used in questions with finding both real and complex roots. This phrasing strongly indicates they want complex roots as well.
Example as such are:
Show that ... (degree 4) = 0 only have 2 real roots.
Hence find all the roots of this equaltion.
OR
Show that a+bi is one of the root of the equation ... (degree 4) = 0.
Hence find all the roots of this equation. |
