SINGAPORE, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Short-seller Muddy Waters on Tuesday released its long-awaited report on Singapore commodities firm Olam International Ltd, describing the company as a "strong sell" as there is a high risk the firm could fail.
"We believe it is instructive to view Olam through the lens of failed U.S. trader Enron Corp. There are a number of material similarities in the way their businesses developed and their actions," Muddy Waters alleged in its report.
"We value Olam on a liquidation basis because our opinion is that it is likely to fail. In the event of a liquidation, we estimate the present value of the debt to be 14 to 33 cents (to the dollar). In a liquidation, the equity would likely be wiped out," it added.
Olam has denied Muddy Waters' allegations and has taken steps to sue the firm and its founder Carson Block.
Olam shares were last traded at S$1.61, down 2.7 percent from Monday.
