Do not let faith slip

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip." (Hebrews 2:1)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Something very serious has been happening to the Body of CHRIST. We've often let the WORD of GOD which we have heard, the message of faith and righteousness, slip.

I'm not just talking about those believers who've been so surrounded by religion that they've never heard about the power that's theirs in CHRIST JESUS. I'm talking about those of us who have heard the WORD and have known the thrill of living by faith.

In my own life, for example, there were times when I'd pray for healing. I'd say all the right words, "Thank GOD, I believe, I receive..." and all that. But inside I'd be thinking, "I wonder why GOD isn't healing me?"

You see, even though I'd said that I believed I was healed, I hadn't really. I'd staggered at the promise of GOD, believing what my body told me instead of the WORD of GOD.

I don't care how long you've been a believer or how long you've been practicing the principles of faith. You can easily slip into unbelief about the promises of GOD. And, when you do, it will cost you dearly.

"But if slipping into unbelief is so easy," you may say, "how can we avoid it?"

Hebrews 4:11 tells us: "Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."

We must labour! Not by working with our hands and feet or struggling to get GOD to do something, but by spending time in GOD's WORD--hanging onto the promises of GOD by active faith day after day. We must labour by hearkening to the WORD and refusing to let it slip.

Don't get casual about the WORD. Don't make the mistake of thinking, "Oh I know all that faith stuff. I know how to receive my healing." Don't slack off or one of these days the devil will catch you unprepared and steal you blind.

Instead, dig more deeply in the WORD than ever. Labour! Be diligent to keep your active faith from slipping--and you won't have to fall!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scripture Study:

Hebrews 10:23-39

New International Version (NIV)

23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for HE who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the DAY approaching.

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of GOD. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the SON of GOD underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the SPIRIT of grace? 30 For we know HIM who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The LORD will judge HIS people.” 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living GOD.

32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34 You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of GOD, you will receive what HE has promised. 37 For,In just a little while, HE who is coming will come and will not delay.”

38 And,But MY righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.”

39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

We give thanks to GOD, the FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, for this day and for you, faithful brothers and sisters.

Worship the LORD
Pro. 31:30 - Charm is deceitful and beauty is passimg, but a woman who fear the LORD, she shall be praised.
Shalom Brothers n Sisters,
The Book of Proverbs ends where it began, with a focus on the fear of the LORD (Pro. 1:7). When we live by the truth of GOD - HIS holiness, righteousness, power, love, wisdom, goodness, faithfulness - we build on an unchanging reality that provides us with a firm fundation for life. And those who know and worship (living by the WORD of the LORD - Deut. 8:3) GOD for who HE really is find both success in life and praise after it.

Godly counsel
Pro. 15:22 – Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.
Shalom Brothers and Sisters,
Since none of us has an unlimited perspective, we need to invite multiple viewpoints outside of our own to inform our most important decisions and plans. GOD often uses the perspective of others (true follower of CHRIST) to show us HIS will.

It is the glory of GOD to conceal
Pro. 25:2 - It is the glory of GOD to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
Shalom Brothers n Sisters,
GOD not only reveals things we didn't know, HE also hides things so that we can't know them. Elisha found this out " . . . but the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me why" (2 King 4:27), as did Moses, "The secret things belong to the LORD our GOD, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law" (Deut. 29:29). And Isaiah says, "Truly YOU are a GOD who has been hiding HIMSELF, the GOD and SAVIOR of Israel" (Isa. 45:15).

Let the HOLY SPIRIT control your tongue
Pro. 30:32 - If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth.
Shalom Brothers n Sisters,
Job literally put his hand over his mouth when GOD appeared to him in a whirlwind to admonish him for his rash demands (Job 40:4-5 "I am unworthy - how can I reply YOU? I put my hand over my mouth. I spoke once, but I have no answer - twice, but I will say no more." [Here the Scripture is telling us that Job abandons his obsession with being vindicated. It is actually his turn to speak, but he has nothing to say, because he was brought low before our ALMIGHTY GOD] ). We must control our tongues by the HOLY SPIRIT or else our tongues will control us (James 3.8 - but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.)

Vanity
Eccl. 1:9, 14; 9 - That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. 14 - I (King Solomon) have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.
Shalom Brothers n Sisters,
The key word in Ecclesiates is "vanity," the emptiness of trying to be happy apart from GOD. King Solomon, the wisest, richest king in Israel's history, looks at life "under the sun" (Eccl. 1:9), and from a purely human perspective he declares it all to be empty. Power, popularity, prestige, pleasure - nothing can fill the GOD-shaped vacuum in man's life but GOD HIMSELF. But once seen from GOD's perspective, however, life takes on great meaning and purpose, causing Solomon to exclaim, "eat . . . drink . . . rejoice . . . do good . . . live joyfully . . . fear GOD . . . and keep HIS commandments!" Skepticism and despair will melt away when we view life as a daily gift from GOD.
GOD "give us richly all things to enjoy," but HE warns us not "to trust in uncertain riches but in the living GOD" and urges us to "be rich in good works, ready to give" (1 Tim. 6:17, 18).
