Q
Currently, I am using my CPF savings to service my housing loan. Can I request to leave a certain amount in my CPF to service the loan and withdraw the remaining balance of my CPF savings which I may be eligible to withdraw?
A
Yes, you can. You may apply to make a partial withdrawal of your CPF savings. However, should you decide to withdraw the amount which was intended for your housing loan later on, you can do so if you meet the withdrawal conditions then.
Please note that the Board processes all withdrawals for members who are 55 and above, using the following deduction sequence:
i) interests earned in the Special Account, then Ordinary Account, from the beginning of the year up to the month before the withdrawal, followed by
ii) contribution/refunds credited to the Special Account, then Ordinary Account, in the same month of the withdrawal, and lastly,
iii) monies in the Special Account, then Ordinary Account.
Q
I am reaching 55, will I be able to continue using my CPF savings to service my housing loan after I turn 55?
A
Yes, you will. On your 55th birthday, a Retirement Account (RA) will be created for you. Savings up to your Full Retirement Sum from your Special Account and/or Ordinary Account (OA) will be transferred to your RA.
If you have an outstanding housing loan, you can use the following to continue paying your housing loan:
Your savings which you have applied to reserve in your OA before your 55th birthday. This reserved amount will not be transferred to your RA, so you can continue to use it to pay your housing loan after turning 55 years old. To apply, please log on using your SingPass to my cpf Online Services > My Requests > Property > Use CPF for my property > Reserve OA monies for housing;
Your new contributions to your OA (if you continue working after 55); and
Your RA savings above your Basic Retirement Sum.
