Fortran is still a dominant language for the large scale simulation of physical systems, ie. for things like the astrophysical modeling of stars and galaxies, hydrodynamics codes (cf. Flash), large scale molecular dynamics, electronic structure calculation codes (cf. SIESTA), large scale climate models, etc. In the field of high performance computing (HPC), of which large scale numerical simulation is a subset, there are only two languages in use today — C++ and “modern Fortran”

个别领域还在用不奇怪，因为有些地方变化没那么快，几十年前的代码还在继续运行，还需要维护。重新推到再来，代价太大。
但是这种语言已经落后于时代是铁板钉钉的事情了。例如要用个算法解决一个问题，c或者c++有现成的库已经帮你做了很多事情，而且这些库可以说千锤百炼，之前不知道有多少人已经用过了，效率，稳定性，扩充性，等等等等，绝对比99.99%的程序员自己花大力气造出来的轮子强的多。而且这些语言还有强大的开发工具支持。更重要的是，互联网时代，有啥问题网上一搜基本上已经有解决方案了。

而这一切，Fortran都没有呀。
