your case is some similar with me. I am singapore PR and I will marrymy girlfriend ( who is studying here with holding student pass andabove 21 years old ) this month.
I 'd like to apply PR for her but it is not so easy as what weexpected. I think it is faire to apply LTSVP first and then applyPR  some months late after the marriage.

But I still encourage you to have a try, no one can sentence it death till the final outcome.
