I hope you understand that the languages in the automotive technical industry are predominantly English, German and Japanese. So you need to know at least one of them in order to perform the job.

In Singapore and Malaysia, job cards are raised according to the findings of the foreman and are written in English, spare parts are distinguished with English, tools are known in English, communication is inevitably in English. How are you going to survive in the automotive industry down here if you cannot communicate in English?

新加坡有85%的人会讲华语,用简单的英语可以与另外10%的人交流,毕竟这是修车吗,不是写论文。另外5%的人交给新加坡的同事就可以了,楼主不要怕,一定会找到的。支持一下!

Don't provide wrong information to the threadstarter if you want to help him.

Can you explain how are you going to execute your duty when you cannot even understand your job card?
Can you explain how are you going to communicate to your suppliers and logistics if you don't even know how to properly address the parts you need.
Can you explain how are you going to follow up with the jobs returning based on warranty?

First of all, try and decipher the following commonly used job card jargons below. Don't try and use an online translator because you will not have the time on the job.

Radiator Fan N/W
RPL fan belt
ZYL1 misfire; troubleshoot
OSF tyre bald
40K svc
Servotronic servo-throttle converter malfunctioning
Engine gasket leaking close to the crankcase
track control arm bushing loose
Sway bar link loose
ARB link loose
RPL ATF & Filter; transmission

Next, try and tell me what are the items normally communicated between workshops and logistics.

Torsion Bar; Tag Axle
Steering column
Recirculating ball steering gear system
rack and pinion power steering system
Engine block
Inlet Camshaft
Outlet Camshaft
DOHC Engine
Rocker cover

SAE10W/50
Exxonmobil GL5
Dot4

I have to refrain from employing Chinese mechanics when my Singaporean mechanics resigned or retired. Although there are exceptions, the Chinese mechanics I know always have a problem understand complicated stuffs. I know of workshops that hire Chinese mechanics having to hire another translator to communicate the information to the Chinese mechanics. Malaysian mechanics or Philippinos always fill the spot because of the language barrier. Also, after being in the trade for a decade, I have never seen a Chinese mechanic bearing the same technical efficiency as a Singaporean mechanic. Even a Thai mechanic is more technically efficient than all the chinese mechanics I have seen. I certainly look forward to finding one Chinese mechanic who can be otherwise. Be realistic, don't be overly optimistic and take for granted that you think since people understands Mandarin, so it naturally means that technical terms will also be communicated in Mandarin effectively.

Think global. China is not the world.
