I've watched all of these listed above already. Yup, I agree what you've said. Lee Kuan Yew is not the only one who's contributed to the development of Singapore. But I've to say that his wisdom and political tactics play an very important part despite the efforts from other ministers.

With the current condition, especially economically, it is very impossible for Singapore to rejoin the Malaya federation. Such a thought is inconceivable. While the unpredictable future remains unknown, I doubt such a day will ever come again. Singapore is now a sovereign state and bow to no one. Although Singapore continues to extend our hospitality to foreigners who might come to Singapore to work or play, it is imperative for those who visit our land to respect our sovereignty.

If you do realise, I have made some observation and come to see a very peculiar phenomenon. The number of foreigners in Singapore are plenty. Despite the large variety and staggering population, only the Chinese gets into trouble with the law for insolence. Two recent high profile cases of racial insults were carried out by Chinese. And it is interesting to note that none of the other nationalities have problems with the anti sedition law here. Perhaps you might want to explain why.

sun814, you seem to confuse yourself with being outspoken and being insolent.
While we enjoy the freedom of expression, there is a limit to what we can say. Those two high profile cases were outright trouble makers. So it was right that ICA arrested one of them and allowing him the opportunity to embark on an apology campaign while the other fled while he could.

hey, putting the issues on whether the things they say is too sensitive, perhaps PRC chinese dares to speak up, but we can't handle the them.  详情 回复 发表于 2-8-2011 20:54

Haha, how about the third and fourth case? Mightn't be by the Chinese PRC .

The two cases you just refer to are actually isolated cases.

One case is involved by a worker if I'm not wrong while the other case is by a student.

These two types of people cannot respresent the Chinese PRC.

As you know, workers are less educated while students are still on the way to be educated for further.

Let's hope there will not be a 3rd or 4th case.  详情 回复 发表于 2-8-2011 21:13

I cannot determine if those are wisdom or actions derived from questionable integrity. But I am sure what he did made Singapore a success story. In terms of accomplishments, Lee Kuan Yew remains today one of the best leaders globally.

If you do take note, Lee KY is a straits born Chinese and thus had no prevalent ties with China. He speaks English and works like an English educated Straits born Chinese. His success should not be attributed to any credit from any Chinese authority. However, he was right to build up friendship with China paving an easier path for both the Singaporeans and Chinese to trade. But despite the intimacy, we remain different. It is impossible for Singaporean to be considered as Chinese. And like what some members have been campaigning, it is a transgression to our national integrity to claim that Singaporeans should pledge our allegiance to China. This tantamounts to sedition and the masses don't seem to be prepared to tolerate such behavior.

Sun814, you seem to confuse yourself with race for nationality. My ancestry does not determine my allegiance.
I am very disturbed with your morbid tendency to link Singapore and China together. We are different like it or not. Unless of course you would like to renounce your citizenship like what the other member said earlier.

please show show respect to your ancestry also. down here you denying them all together.  详情 回复 发表于 2-8-2011 20:59

Yup, I agree to most of what you say. Minster Mentor Lee is a straits born Chinese. We can only call him 华人 instead of 中国人。I've found that some of guys aren't using the word 'Chinese' and 'Singaporens' very properly. The word 'Chinese' is irrelevant to nationality. Chinese Singaporeans are Chinese and Singaporean but not Chinese PRC. Chinese Singaporeans are just a part of Singaporeans although they are the majority, which is around 70 percent of the Singapore population.

Yup, I agree that student's behaviour is not to be to toleranted if some of you really don't want.

But you might think of what this student said and reflect on why others play such a ridiculous joke on Singapore.

You know why?

Because some of you leave a bad impression to foreigners just as some Chinese PRC don't give you a good impression.

Haha, yup, for this phenomenon, we need to blame PAP. Haha, why do they value more on cost-effective labors?

I think most of foreigners PAP imports from other countries are cost-effective labors, who are less educated, comparatively speaking.

Singaporeans should suggest PAP import more upper-class Chinese PRC to contribute to the development Singapore.

Yup, I agree that student's behaviour is not to be to toleranted if some of you really don't want. ...

His insolence was an utter abomination.

I have Chinese friends and colleagues who behave very differently from those with lesser integrity. It is most interesting to note the polar disparity in terms of behavior. However, one very important fac remains, he was on Singaporean soil. Therefore it becomes critical that he must learn how not to shoot his mouth off without a leash. And it takes a fool to make such remarks about your host while still within your host's territory.

It is also a fact that many locals who bear grudges against the Chinese because of the consistant contempt. Some Chinese conduct themselves poorly here and therefore the tremendous amount of resentment. So shouldn't the locals here have a right to tell them off since this is Singapore and not China. Likewise, I will expect only the best behavior showing utmost respect to the Chinese cultures while in China.

I am not advocating retaliation, but I think while the Singaporeans show discontentment with the Chinese, the latter should also start to ponder why are they creating so much anger against themselves before they start to hit back at Singaporeans.

Haha! I don't think the upper-class guys would be too interested in going over for work or busines ...

Haha, this is a contradiction for Lee Kuan Yew, too.

Upper-class people cost much more money, but good for the nation.

Lower-class people cost much less money. but might bring some troubles.

政治家的一辈子,一直在考虑类似的问题,但是永远不会有完美的选择。
