今天让我们来学几个轻松美语：

1. Do you have any pet peeve?
你有什么的怪毛病吗?
所谓的 pet peeve 就是个人生活习惯上的一些小毛病，例如有些人不喜欢别人碰他的电脑， 要是你碰他的电脑他就会不高兴，这就是所谓的 pet peeve（而非 bad habit）。通常 pet peeve 都是比较无伤大雅的小毛病，几乎每个人都有自己的 pet peeve。所以就有老美跟我说过Everybody has his pet peeve. 当然 pet peeve 也常常成为老美谈话之间彼此开玩笑的话题。
如果这个坏习惯大到会影响别人，像是在公共场所老是讲话很大声，这就不是 pet peeve，而要用 annoying 来形容。例如有人背后抱怨别人：Don't you think he is annoying? (你不觉得他很烦吗?)

2. Maybe I'm going out on a limb, but I think we still have to invest it.
或许这么做有点冒险，但我想我们还是要投资它。
一般人想到冒险，直觉的反应就是 It's risky. 或是 It's dangerous. 但是囗语上老美喜欢说I'm going out on a limb. 来表示这件事需要冒险。这个 limb 原意是指树枝，想象当你爬树时爬到小树枝上去了，不知道什么时候小树枝就会断掉是不是很危险？这种不确定的危机感就是为什么老美要用 Go out on a limb. 来表示冒险的原因了。例如你来到一个清澈的河边，你很想下去游泳，但四周又没有救生员，这时你就可以说：Maybe I'm going out on a limb, but I think I am gonna try it. （我知道这么做有点冒险，但我还是要试试看。）

3. I don't have skeleton in my closet.
我没有什么不可告人的秘密。
每次竞选期间一到，一定会看到候选人争相证明自己的过去是清白的，没有什么不可告人的秘密。这句话在英文里要怎么讲呢?最简单的说法就是I don't have any secret in the past. 但是这样的说法不如俚语的用法 I don't have skeleton in my closet. 来得传神。在这里 skeleton 是指骷髅，而 closet 是指衣柜，各位不难想象，一个人把骷髅藏在自己的衣柜里做什么? 一定是有不可告人的秘密。例如你在高中时考试作弊被抓到，还被记了一个大过，但你长大之后这件事再也没有人提过，所以你也不想别人知道。这件考试作弊就变成是你的 skeleton in the closet 了。

4. Are you sure you are going to set us up?
你确定你要帮我们制造机会吗?
在英文里制造机会可不是 make a chance 喔! 虽然这是大家最自然会想到的说法。正确的说法应该用 set up 这个片语，例如 set you up 就是“帮你制造机会”的意思。另外，老美也很喜欢用 fix up 和 hook up 来表示“撮合某人”。例如你有一个妹妹长得还可以，你想把她介绍给你同学，你就可以跟你同学说：Do you like my sister? I can fix you up. （你喜欢我妹妹吗? 我可以撮合你们。）

5. Probably. It's still up in the air.
大概吧，但还不确定。
大家都应该常常有和别人相约的经验吧! 其实和别人相约是一件很不容易的事情。一开始没女朋友觉得没人陪不想出门，但就算有人陪了却又不知要去哪里，而就算知道要去哪里，又不知道要做什么。不知道各位有没有这样的经验，你问他“我们今天见面要做什么”，他说“我也不知道，到时再看吧。”其实这种情形中外皆然，各位不必惊讶。“到时候再看”也是老美常说的一句话，简单的讲法就是“I haven't decided yet. ”，“I haven't made my mind yet.”或是 “We'll see.” 就可以了。不然的话你也可以小小地卖弄一下英文：It's up in the air.
It's up in the air. 比较俏皮的翻法就是：八字还没一撇呢! 例如别人问你：Are you dating Jennifer now? （你跟 Jennifer 开始约会了吗?）你就可以答：It's up in the air. （八字还没一撇呢!）

在汉语中有很多含有"麻"的词语。比如川菜的"麻辣"；有人说话很"肉麻"；遇到危险或紧急的情况会吓得"头皮发麻"；保持一个姿势时间长了会"手脚发麻"等等。这里都使用同一个"麻"字，但是在英语里却有不同的说法，所谓此"麻"非彼"麻"也。那么这些"麻"都该怎么说呢？下文就为您一一道来。
1. 麻辣：spicy
比如"麻辣"，美国人会说" It's so spicy. My lips went numb."（这东西又麻又辣，我的嘴唇都麻了。）
2. 肉麻
如果说这个人说话特别肉麻，则可以说"What he says is so corny. "
3. （吓得）发麻
如果说一个人吓得"头皮发麻"，我们可以说"The horror movie was so scary. It made his hair stand on end. "（这电影特别吓人，吓得他头皮发麻。）
4. （手脚）麻木
"手麻了"应该如何说呢？你是不是会翻译成"My hands go numb. "呢？其实不然。在这里"手麻了"的"麻"应该是"to go asleep "。例如"The young mother has been holding the baby for so long that her arm went asleep."（这个年轻的妈妈抱她的孩子抱得太久了，胳膊都麻了。）
一个小小的"麻"字在英语里可以有如此多的说法，我们在与他人交流时要格外注意。当你想表达"麻"的时候，一定要先想清楚到底应该使用哪一个"麻"。

今天来学两个你也许会感兴趣的，来看看“花言巧语”和“调情高手”怎么说？

1. That is very smooth.
那样讲算是非常地花言巧语。
老美常用 smooth 这个形容词来形容一个男生能言善道，很会讨女孩子的欢心。这种人有时也会被称为 smooth talker 或是 smooth operator。这种用法原是指能言善道的播音员，但现在都用来泛指那些嘴巴很甜的人 (sweet talking guy)。例如有个男生对他感兴趣的一个女生说：I'm lost in your eyes. （你的眼神让我迷失。）我对他这句话的评价就是：That's very smooth.
记得上次跟一个老美聊到他伯伯，这位老哥他总共娶了四位老婆。据说他其貌不扬，用丑来形容也不过分。我们就在讨论他能娶四位老婆的原因。我说：“I guess he is a smooth talker!”结果我朋友接话：“Well, more importantly, he is very, very rich.”

2. He is a flirt.
他是调情高手。
如果一个男生被人家说成是 flirt，那就表示他是一个调情高手，他会在肢体上有些亲密的小动作，或是在言语上给一些暗示，例如：Your place or mine?（等下是去你那里还是去我家？） 诸如此类的。有些男生是天生的 flirt，他对每个女生都很好，每个女生也都很喜欢他。形容这种男人我们可以说：He is a natural-born flirt and he is good with women.（他是个天生的调情高手，他对每个女生都很好。) 另外我们也常见flirt的动词用法，意思差不多就是“打情骂俏”。例如：He is trying to flirt with you. Be careful! 还有就是很多女朋友的共同心声：My boyfriend spent more time talking and flirting with other girls at that party than he did with me. 雄性动物的本性啊！;P

大家一定都知道ear 的意思是“耳朵”，那关于耳朵，大家了解多少呢？比如 I'm all ears 是什么意思？比如耳朵的“特产”耳屎怎么说？如果你不知道，就“洗耳恭听”，我来给你讲吧！
1. I'm all ears.
我洗耳恭听。
先给大家讲个小故事：One day, we hired a carpenter to repair our house. I dwelt on (详细讲述)all the details that needed repairing to him. Then I asked him, "Are you clear? Can you remember all that?" "Yes!" the carpenter replied. "I am all ears!" I felt puzzled and did not know what he meant. Later my eldest son explained to me that he meant, "I am listening attentively!"

各位有看过 Jennifer Lopez主演的 The Wedding Planner (爱上新郎) 这部电影吗? 里面有一段是他们玩拼字游戏。他们拼的就是 earwax 这个词，也就是英文“耳屎”的意思。看来美国人觉得“耳屎”是一种腊 (wax)。
以前我们讲过挖鼻孔是 pick one's nose，那挖耳朵自然就是 pick one's ear了? 没错，老美管挖耳朵叫 scratch one's ear 或是 pick one's ear。平常我们挖耳朵用的小勺就叫 earpick。不过老美他们挖耳朵都是用棉花棒 (cotton swab 或者 Q-tip，一种有名棉花棒的牌子)，说 earpick 老美可能会听不太懂。
